I am a Professor of Communication Studies and Women's and Gender Studies at Eastern Washington University. I have been teaching here since 1993, when I finished my Ph.D. at University of Illinois. My academic specialty is feminist cultural studies.
I teach courses in gender and communication, sexuality studies, cultural studies, qualitative research methods, and visual communication.
My research is characterized by critical, interpretive, feminist approaches to communication and culture, and informed by interdisciplinary study in speech communication, folklore, and women's studies. Most recently, my work has focused on examination of postfeminism in media representations of women's reproductive health.
I am involved in numerous professional activities on my campus and several professional societies.
